How I was inspired:

In the summer of 2019, I presented a 20 minute oral presentation over selenium-modified DNA and its X-ray diffractions for structure study at the annual American Crystallographic Association (ACA) conference. Because of that, I started a research club, and we focused on crystallography as well as Central Dogma and selenium-modified DNA. We also competed at the national level US Crystal Growing Competition (USCGC). Last year, one of our crystals came in second place for our crystal quality. 

Now, however, due to the pandemic,  many extracurricular activities have been cancelled. In order to provide students with an opportunity to showcase skills and experiment with science, we were inspired to create a crystal growing competition for our local community.
